HCMC – The HCMC exchange edged up for a third session on May 31 with 119 gainers and 100 losers. The VN-Index shot up 3.94 points (0.64%) at 618.44.
Investors changed hands 121.5 million shares worth a combined VND2.18 trillion (US$102 million), up slightly from the previous session, with 13.5 million shares worth VND389 billion transacted in put-through deals.
According to Dau tu Chung khoan newspaper, oil has stood at over US$50 per barrel on world markets. At home, PVD added 6.4% to VND31,600 per share with 3.37 million shares changing hands while GAS gained 5.26% at VND60,000 per share with over one million shares traded.
Similarly, PVT, backed by foreign purchases, closed at an intraday high of VND13,000 per share, up 4.84%. Stock traders picked up 2.7 million PVT shares, with foreigners accounting for 1.1 million shares.
The newspaper said the main index would have risen further if large caps like VCB and VIC had not dropped at the end of the session. In the banking sector, VCB plunged while STB and MBB stood at their reference prices, and BID, CTG and EIB stayed in positive territory.
The Hanoi market extended its winning streak for the third straight session with the HNX-Index ending 0.48% higher at 81.92 points. There were 128 gainers and 74 losers.
Investors traded 75.2 million shares valued at VND792 billion. Notably, put-through transactions rocketed to 20.4 million shares worth VND203 billion.
Realty developer VCG and fertilizer producer LAS, plus a couple of petroleum stocks, were major contributors to the market rally.
SCR took the lead by volume on the northern exchange with 8.2 million shares traded, followed by DCS with 5.2 million shares and VCG with less than three million shares.
Overall, the VN-Index went up 3.35% and the HNX-Index up 1.54% in May.
Foreign investors remained net buyers on both exchanges on May 31. The foreign net buying value reached VND153.3 billion on the HCMC bourse, mainly GAS with VND19.5 billion, NT2 with VND16.4 billion and SSI with VND14.8 billion. They sold DPM, HPG and HNG shares with a respective value of VND18.7 billion, VND12.2 billion and VND10.4 billion.
Foreigners net purchased VND16 billion worth of shares on the Hanoi market. They spent VND6.9 billion on PVS and VND4.2 billion on PLC while offloading VND800 million worth of PGS shares and VND200 million worth of ICG shares.
